Social Movies in a World of Social Distancing

Project Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, isolation and social distancing measures were widely used around the whole world, having a significant impact on people’s social lives and relationships. More and more people became more conscious of personal hygiene and protection, intentionally strengthening their self-isolation and inadvertently reducing physical contact with others. This trend could have lasting effects on future social structures and interaction patterns, prompting a shift towards online social activities. This webapp aligns with the current trend of engaging in social interactions online, enabling people to be more social while maintaining physical distance. It facilitates socializing through online movie watching and communication, promoting remote interactions among friends. Additionally, developing this application helps prepare for potential future pandemics, aligning with contemporary societal directions. This project aims to develop a web-based media player that allows multiple users to watch videos together online.
