Building a Hybrid Mobile App (‘UniFi’ – A Social Media App exclusive to members belonging to the same University)

Project Abstract

The ‘UniFi’ project addresses the pressing need for effective communication and engagement within the Swansea University community, leveraging the power of mobile technology and social media to revolutionize the way students and staff connect, collaborate, and share information. By developing a dedicated hybrid mobile application tailored specifically to the needs of the university community, this project aims to foster a stronger sense of belonging, improve information dissemination, and enhance collaboration opportunities. The project follows a user-centred design approach and employs agile methodologies, focusing on delivering a functional frontend prototype that seamlessly integrates university-specific features and prioritizes usability and user experience. Key findings from user studies and feedback indicate a strong demand for such a platform, highlighting its potential to enhance the overall university experience, streamline communication channels, and promote active participation within the community. The ‘Unity’ project not only addresses a significant gap within the Swansea University ecosystem but also contributes to the broader field of mobile app development and university community engagement, showcasing the potential of hybrid mobile technologies and user-centred design to create impactful solutions that meet the unique needs of educational institutions.
