Developing and Assessing an Interactive Cybersecurity Education Platform: A Delphi Study on Effective Digital Training Tools for University Students
Project Abstract
Cybersecurity drives safeguarding of data with the speed of technology. Yet, university students persistently face new vulnerabilities and are prime targets of cyber attackers by the tick of the clock hugely due to gaps in cybersecurity training and education calling for urgent attention. Besides, their widening digital footprints, paving new gaps for cyber threats warrant no better time than now to be one step ahead in ensuring a safe digital space. This study proposes an effective digital tool on cybersecurity training for university students. It uses a mixed method to collect quantitative data and user feedback and then applies a Delphi framework for expert contribution to develop a useful and interactive web tool with a cybersecurity training experience. Preliminary assessment of the tool showed significant improvement in students? knowledge of cloud storage, authentication, malware, and phishing. Unlike traditional websites, this approach paves a new dimension to closing the gap of existing educational frameworks by blending interactive features and co-designing with experts for a cybersecurity experience. Therefore, this proposed approach offers a better interactive, engaging, and useful training capability compared to conventional websites, addressing the gap of limited training. Another significant benefit is to extend useful training resource to a wider population reach to close the knowledge gap of university students by helping them to proactively identify, detect and respond to threats. The Delphi approach, which leverages expert consensus in designing educational tools, makes this study effective and valid in developing a digital training tool for university students. This study embodies a solution gap and provides a foundation for innovative approaches to cybersecurity training, skill and education that hopes to contribute towards improving education and advancing technology.
