A Dynamic Computing Education Reasearch Hub for Teachers

Project Abstract

The motivation for establishing a dynamic computing education resource hub for teachers in the United Kingdom stems from the urgent need to address the challenges that educators face when providing high-quality computing education. This project is important and has the potential to benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including teachers, students, and the larger educational community. As the demand for computing literacy grows across industries and sectors, it becomes increasingly important to provide students with these fundamental skills. Concisely, the proposed project aims to create a dynamic computing education resource hub like a repository that will function as a platform for teachers to store, upload, categorize, download, search, and rate the quality of the computing resources. The methodology to be used for developing this project is the Design Science Research Methodology. The steps involved in DSRM with regard to this project are as follows problem identification and motivation, definition of objectives for a solution, design and development, demonstration, evaluation, and communication In addition, the following tools and technologies will be used to create the scalable, user-friendly computing education resource portal: Next.js” enables server-side rendering (SSR)”; Prisma Object Relational Database “supports multiple databases, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL”; MongoDB, a database management system “provides a flexible and scalable solution for storing and managing unstructured or semi-structured data”; and Model-View-View-Model (MVVM) Design Pattern “a software architectural pattern that separates the presentation logic from the business logic in an application”. This initiative, which addresses the critical need for adaptable, high-quality educational resources, aims to transform the computing education landscape in the United Kingdom for both teachers and students. This, in turn, enables more focused engagement with students, resulting in better learning outcomes.
