Cyber Security Projects – Packet Sniffing
Project Abstract
The development of computer networks has transformed the way information is shared and accessed, allowing for easy communication and teamwork worldwide. However, as technology advances, it is crucial to implement strong network security measures to protect valuable data from cyber threats. Packet sniffing, a method used to intercept and examine data packets moving through a network, is essential for assessing, troubleshooting, and optimizing network security. This project report provides a thorough examination of packet sniffing, emphasizing its core concepts, approaches, and real-world uses.In this project report, we delve into the world of packet sniffing, examining its theories, techniques, and real-world uses. By creating a packet sniffing tool with socket programming and raw sockets, we showcase how to intercept and examine network data as it flows. Additionally, utilizing monitor mode allows for packet sniffing without being connected to specific access points, making the process more versatile and effective. The project explores how to analyse network frames to find important details like MAC and IP addresses of source and destination nodes. It also covers the ethical and legal issues surrounding packet sniffing, stressing the need for responsible and legal use of this technology. This project report offers valuable insights into packet sniffing and its effects on network security and management. It serves as a valuable resource for students, researchers, and practitioners in computer networking and cybersecurity. The report provides a comprehensive understanding of packet sniffing techniques through theoretical analysis and practical implementation, highlighting their significance in network communication and security.
