Animal Conservation Web Application

Project Abstract

Animal Conservation is an extensive field in which an abundance of organisations aim to save declining populations spanning the globe. It’s an ever-growing one – to a point which could prove overwhelming for newcomers interested in conservation. The overarching aim of this project was to convert the jungle-like world of conservation into a tool which provides both engaging interaction and crucial information for various demographics. The application itself provides users with two major foundations: an informational sidebar and an interactable map. The sidebar hosts all endangered animals and the information that coincides with them, and the map is home to different types of data and markers which provide a visual interpretation of key information. This was all achieved through the use of Laravel, a PHP-based web framework which combines all aspects of web development in a clear and security-friendly place. From conducting user tests where a sample group were given a hands-on build of the application, it was evident how the app proves to be a worthy contender in providing newcomers a gateway into the world of conservation. This is achieved via the foundational functionality stated before, but also by the outreach to other organisations via links and information on their own missions/aims.
