FARM BUDDY

Project Abstract

This study addresses the issues encountered by Sri Lankan farmers, concentrating on empowering them, benefiting consumers, and contributing to the country’s economy. In Sri Lanka, the agricultural sector now relies on middlemen, resulting in poor returns for farmers and restricted access to fresh, high-quality farm goods for consumers. To solve this, this study proposes the construction of a direct, technology-driven marketplace that removes intermediaries and links farmers directly with consumers. By building this marketplace, farmers can have better control over their produce, set fair prices, and manage inventory using this user-friendly web platform. Consumers, in turn, may easily navigate the platform, explore, search, and purchase fresh farm items. Consumer confidence is strengthened by extensive information on farmers, their agricultural practices, and product quality. Convenient pickup or delivery choices and safe payment methods further improve the entire customer experience. Apart from empowering farmers and rewarding customers, this project also attempts to promote the Sri Lankan economy. It provides job possibilities for delivery drivers, encourages direct connections between farmers and clients, and creates significant data insights on consumer trends and purchasing behaviour to enable farmers to make educated decisions. The project’s purpose is to boost farmers’ income, assure consumers’ access to high-quality farm goods, and contribute to Sri Lanka’s general economic well-being by transforming the agricultural sector through this direct marketplace. This study underlines the need to link farmers and customers directly, eliminate intermediaries, and harness technology for sustainable agricultural growth and a healthy economy.
