Project Abstract

The initiative of Environmental Studies Knowledge Upgrader could be called a dramatic advancement in the improvement of the environmental literacy of grade 4 and 5 primary school students in Sri Lanka. The initiative is a result of that misbalancing which influences the primary level of education in Sri Lanka, mostly with science and math at the focus while environmental studies remain unappreciated. Such a gap in being environmentally literate not only limits environmental literacy but also hinders the development of some vital skills that may be applied to overcome environmental problems. Contraria, the Essentials Education Program strives to fill this knowledge gap in society by presenting a trendy and interactive platform that guides and educates the youth in awareness and empathy on the issue of environmental engagement. This report describes the comprehensive methodology employed to develop and evaluate the Environmental Studies Knowledge Upgrader. The results obtained from the interviews, surveys and market research were used continuously to assess and hence refine designing of the project to meet the exact needs and preferences of primary students and teachers. Real agile programming with the result of proper software and user-friendly application was created using an approach that involved complex software testing methods.The efficacy of the Environmental Studies Knowledge Upgrader will be measured by both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Surveys on the application’s functionalities towards teaching environment knowledge and engagement of a parent and a teacher to a student will be conducted, and the feedback received will also be gathered. Added to that, black box and white box testing techniques will be used to evaluate the adequacy, reliability the level of security. The results of these analyses provided valuable insights into the effectiveness and usability of the platform, informing iterative improvements and enhancements.Furthermore, the report discusses the broader implications of the Environmental Studies Knowledge Upgrader within the context of environmental education and sustainable development. By integrating environmental concepts into formal education and leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences, the initiative aims to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious citizens capable of addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Recommendations for future research and development efforts are also provided, emphasizing the importance of continued innovation and collaboration in advancing environmental education initiatives.
