Leveraging Open Data Harvesting for Ethical Monitoring and Surveillance.

Project Abstract

The motivation behind this is to harness open data harvesting for monitoring and surveillance, aiming to reveal valuable insights, track societal trends, and address pressing issues such as human rights violations, environmental degradation, and corruption. The impact of this research lies in the potential to generate beneficial social change through the use of publicly available data sources. The background of the problem involves the systematic collection, analysis, and use of data from various reliable sources, including social media platforms, public databases, and satellite images, to gain insights into a wide range of phenomena, including tracking human rights violations and environmental changes. The proposition of this research is to investigate the potential use of open data harvesting for monitoring and surveillance in various fields by examining the methodology, technologies, and ethical challenges surrounding open data harvesting for monitoring and surveillance. The main aim of the research is to identify significant works, developing trends, and gaps in the literature to gain a thorough understanding of the subject, as well as to motivate additional inquiry and multidisciplinary collaborations in the field of open data harvesting and surveillance studies. The research questions include key techniques and strategies used in open data harvesting for monitoring and surveillance purposes, ethical considerations and problems related to using open data for surveillance purposes, the usefulness and efficacy of open data collecting in surveillance, and potential hazards and consequences of open data collecting and how they may be minimized or addressed. The methods employed in this research involve examining academic articles, reports, and relevant literature on open data gathering, surveillance strategies, and ethical implications. The main approach to the work is to identify gaps in existing knowledge, propose possibilities for future research, and provide answers to the ethical challenges surrounding open data harvesting for monitoring and surveillance.
