A User-Friendly Software Platform for Reminiscence Therapy
Project Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia remain to this day one of the biggestchallenges for modern medicine. The key to my solution is to, within the Android app, present AD patients with content that is related to their lives and experiences. This type of treatment is called Reminiscence Therapy, which has been proven to help improve mood and some cognitive abilities, as well as improve autobiographical memory. The app lets carer create questions including a photo, question description and four answers, which are later shown to the patient. The findings have shown improved cognitive memory abilities by comparing percentage of correctly answered questions and evaluating quiz completion times. In conclusion, this app delivers a modern approach to AD Reminiscence Therapy using digital tools and allows the carer tracking the therapy progress.
