Visualising Machine Learning Algorithms Performance on Human Electroencephalogram Data
Project Abstract
My motivation for this project was my interest in pursuing bioinformatics as a career. I have been interested in biology and psychology for a long time, so this project has given me a great opportunity to integrate my interests with my degree, while giving me experience for a job. The use of technology in neuroscience is accelerating rapidly, with fields such as neuromarketing and brain computer interfaces advancing exponentially in recent years. This project aims to improve the understanding of machine learning algorithms and their use within these fields. I have compared a selection of key algorithms when used to predict real world stimuli from electroencephalogram data. My findings have been displayed on an interactive data dashboard, in a similar style to dashboards that are used in industry. This process has allowed me to compare each algorithm’s strengths and weaknesses for this particular task. I hope that my findings will allow other researchers to have a better insight into the application of these algorithms in the neuroscience field.
