Policy Retrieval Tool for Admiral Group’s Rating Team: Enhancing Access to Test Databases

Photo

Project Abstract

The motivation for this project arises from the Admiral Group’s Rating team’s need for improved access to test database data, which hinders efficient testing of insurance policy changes due lack of technical knowledge. This work directly addresses critical inefficiencies impacting both manual and automated testing processes, ultimately streamlining workflows in testing environments. The core proposition of this research involves the development of a proof of concept policy retrieval tool that simplifies database queries for non-technical users and integrates seamlessly with automated testing scripts, thus making the databases significantly more accessible for the whole team. To achieve these objectives, the project employs an agile development approach structured into three iterations: establishing basic database connectivity and simple SQL execution, extending functionality to handle complex SQL queries, and finally implementing an intuitive user interface. Unit testing is conducted throughout using JUnit 5, alongside functional testing via Zephyr, ensuring the tool meets clearly defined functional and non-functional requirements. Key findings include successful creation and implementation of a user-friendly interface that allows for SQL query construction efficiently, demonstrating significant improvements in testing productivity and accuracy. Ultimately, the contribution of this research lies in providing the Admiral Group’s Rating team with a robust, efficient, and intuitive proof of concept tool, transforming previously opaque databases into highly functional resources accessible to both technical and non-technical team members.
