Project Abstract

The aim of this project is to reduce loneliness in the most isolated members of society. This work is important now as the world is more distant than ever, after the COVID-19 pandemic the world has never fully recovered in a social sense. Loneliness statistics are still high compared to before COVID. This project aims to reconnect those who are most lonely, either with old friends by means of private rooms or new friends by means of public rooms. This project connects these people by allowing them to socialise while watching videos synchronously across the internet. The project is built on the Laravel Framework as well as some other extension frameworks for Laravel. The main programming language of the project has been PHP, with some HTML and CSS for styling. The result of this project has been the development of a website where users can upload videos and watch them synchronously with anyone else in the room. The website includes as many tools as possible to aid in socialising, such as text chat.
