Procedural Generation

Project Abstract

My aim is to create a procedurally generated island whilst also allowing the user to designate a few features such as, if the user wants to designate a feature then they should be able to. By this I mean that if I want to add a lake in the middle of the island or a mountainous region then it should generate that feature, and randomly generate the rest of the island. After generation the island should then be coloured and populated suitably for where the location is on the island. The goal of this project is to explore the use of procedural generation in the production of terrains and how well procedural generation can work alongside user inputs in creating a terrain. Procedural generation has already been used in several well-known games such as ?Minecraft? and ?No Man?s Sky?. From this project I expect to come out with a much larger insight on the uses and drawbacks of procedural generation, as well as ideas on where I could take it into the future.
